Community Based Forest Rehabilitation
Ciliwung 0 KM Programme

Background

Environmental issues in Indonesia are varies from water (flood, drought, clean water deficiency), soil (critical soil, landslide), air (pollution, global warming, haze), to biodiversity loss (Ministry of Environment, 2010). The causes for those environmental issues are also complex which makes no single solution to solve them all. Thus, active role and supports from stakeholders (government, private, and community) are crucial to address the environmental issues in Indonesia.

AQUA, as one of the natural-resource based company, has been initiating a community based ecosystem rehabilitation program in the upper Ciliwung watershed (DAS Ciliwung) called “Ciliwung 0 km”. Ciliwung 0 KM aims to become a corporation-based conservation model in improving environmental quality through active collaboration with government and local community. The long run goal for this project is to provide positive impact in reducing flood to Jakarta by increasing the water catchment quality in the upper watershed and in the same time increase community livelihood to ensure the rehabilitation activities sustain.
