The SERCOVA Project, spanning 73,365 ha in the Wallacea Region of Seram Island, faced significant challenges in transitioning from logging to protected forest management under the Improved Forest Management (IFM) approach.

Berau Regency, East Kalimantan, faces significant environmental threats from shrimp pond farming and brackish water aquaculture. In 2019, approximately 13% (11,237 ha) of the mangrove forests were converted to shrimp ponds, contributing to ecosystem degradation.

Located in West Kalimantan, a 11,848-hectare timber plantation concession holds significant ecological value with more than 48 recorded flora and fauna species, including IUCN-listed species such as the endangered Southeast Asian Box Turtle, Greater Green Leafbird, and the vulnerable Rhinoceros Hornbill.

A timber plantation concession in Aceh, Indonesia, spanning over 106,197 ha, has been managed for timber production since 1992. While economically significant, the area is a biodiversity hotspot, home to critically endangered species such as the Sumatran elephant and Sumatran tiger, underscoring its ecological importance.

The Schwaner Muller landscape, spanning 1.5 million acres of diverse lowland to montane rainforests, is a biodiversity hotspot home to iconic species like the Bornean orangutan, Clouded leopard, and globally threatened Dipterocarp trees.
