The SERCOVA Project started its transformation from logging activities to a conservation-based model. Over its 37-year duration, the project is expected to generate 37.6 million Verified Carbon Units (VCUs), averaging 1,017,349 tCO2e annually, while addressing potential leakage and non-permanence risks.
Biodiversity conservation efforts safeguarded habitats for HCV species, including globally threatened and legally protected flora and fauna. Community-focused programs enhanced the wellbeing of IPLCs, particularly the 56% of the poor population in East Seram District. Training and livelihood activities improved climate resilience and empowered women and marginalized groups in governance roles.
By the end of the project, SERCOVA will stand as a national role model for IFM, demonstrating how sustainable forest management can effectively reduce emissions, conserve biodiversity, and elevate community livelihoods—all while achieving Verra’s VCS CCB Gold Level certification. Gaia Indonesia remains committed to promoting sustainability and prosperity for the people and environment of East Seram, overcoming challenges through innovative, inclusive, and community-driven solutions.
