First Observation of Mating Behaviour of the Critically Endangered Bleeding Toad, Leptophryne cruentata (Tschudi, 1838), in the Mount Gede National Park, Indonesia

Leptophryne cruentata (Tschudi, 1838) is an endemic bufonid from the western part of Java Island, and has been found only on two volcanic mountain systems in Mount Gede Pangrango National Park and Mount Halimun Salak National Park (Kurniati, 2005; Frost, 2024). This species is characterised by having distinct dorsoventral red spots and occurs in montane forest habitats close to brooks and waterfalls (Iskandar, 1998). Leptophryne cruentata is the only amphibian in the Indonesian protected species list (Ministry of Environment and Forestry Decree number P.20/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/6/2018) and listed as CR Critically Endangered by the IUCN Red List (IUCN, 2021).
